World Heritage Day Celebration
Sushant School of Art and Architecture (SSAA), Ansal University collaborated with ICOMOS India North Zone Young Professional Members (YPM) to mark the World heritage day at Badshapur Bawdi, Gurgaon on 18 April 2018.
M Arch Built Heritage students of SSAA introduced the architectural form, significance and issues faced by the Badshahpur Bawdi through a presentation to the audience. This was followed by the launch of ‘tippy tippy tap’ game for the Bawdi, conceptualised and designed by SSAA. The entire team of SSAA, Young Professional Members (YPM) of North Zone ICOMOS India and students from School of Architecture and planning (SPA), New Delhi supported the young participants from local schools in the paper folding exercise led by Dr. Vibhuti Sachdev, Dean SSAA. She took the participants through the various processes of engaging with the Bawdi that were embedded in the design of the tippy tippy tap game, during the paper folding.
YPM of ICOMOS and students of SPA performed a skit on water systems of Ahamadnagar, Maharasthra that was very well received by all. Next came community interactions and a participatory game with the children of the community, aimed at exploring the past and future of the Bawdi. An exhibition was put up at the venue that included projects based on the Bawdi undertaken by two elective modules of final year B Arch at SSAA. Masters elective students too worked on the Bawdi project, proposing solutions through humanistic planning that were exhibited as apart of the exhibition, along with work done on water structures by YPM of North Zone ICOMOS India.
Concluding the event, ICOMOS India feliciated Seth Mohan Lal Mangla Government Girls’ Primary School for providing the venue for the event and SSAA for immense contribution in field of heritage by initiating a ‘100 Day Challenge to Save the Badshahpur Bawdi’ and consistent efforts towards the same.
